Atomic Search by Atomic Jolt
Atomic Search brings powerful, full-text search to D2L Brightspace. Students and instructors can search across course pages, files, and resources by keyword, phrase, or wildcard and get results instantly, without leaving Brightspace.
Unlike Brightspace's built-in navigation, Atomic Search lets users search inside documents, not just by title. That means a student looking for "mitosis" will find every page, PDF, and file where that term appears, across one course or many.
For students, Atomic Search eliminates the frustration of digging through modules to find a specific concept, assignment, or resource. They type what they're looking for and get relevant results in seconds.
For instructors, Atomic Search includes Find & Replace, the ability to locate and update text across course content in bulk. Need to update a broken link, fix a date, or replace outdated terminology? Do it across one course or your entire account without opening each page individually.
For administrators, Atomic Search provides analytics that Brightspace doesn't offer natively: what students are searching for, which searches return no results, how adoption is growing across your institution, and where content gaps exist. These insights turn search data into actionable feedback for instructional designers and curriculum teams.
Key Capabilities
Full-Text Search Search inside course pages, uploaded files, and linked resources by keyword, phrase, or wildcard (e.g., mus* or "music history"). Results go beyond page titles to find content wherever it lives.
Multi-Course Search Students and instructors can search across multiple courses at once, scoped by role and permissions. No more switching between courses to track down a resource.
Find & Replace Instructors and administrators can find and replace text, broken links, or anything embedded in the HTML across one course, multiple courses, or an entire account. This turns hours of manual content editing into minutes.
Brightspace Release Conditions Support Atomic Search respects Brightspace Release Conditions. Content that hasn't been released to a student won't appear in their search results, maintaining the integrity of your course design.
Search Analytics Course Search Analytics show the exact terms students search for and how often. Admin-level Usage Analytics track total users, active users, search volume, course coverage, and adoption trends over time, broken down by month and by role.
Automatic Indexing Courses are indexed automatically on installation and updated every 10 hours for active courses. Instructors can also trigger a manual re-index at any time.
Configurable Branding Customize the search widget with your institution's branding for a seamless experience inside Brightspace.
