What is Interactive Video?

The Interactive Video tool allows instructors to add in-line questions and discussion threads to video files for social annotation.

Why is Interactive Video useful for learning?

Videos are a powerful way for students to understand and visualise concepts, yet, too often students are only passively consuming the content. By adding interactivity, deeper learning is enabled, as well as the possibility for deeper reflection on relevant topics. There is also a social element, so students can collaborate and share knowledge in a fun and engaging way.

How does Interactive Video work?

With Interactive Video, instructors can add a layer of interactivity to the video content in order to ensure that students actually process and not only passively watch the video. Both instructor and student can start discussion topics on the video or ask questions which would pop up while the video is being watched.

We have designed a tool with the firm belief that its ease of use will determine its success. Therefore, depending on the teacher’s didactic method, the plugin allows them to create extra activities such as:

• Discussion on statements put forward in the video
• Personalization of the video by skipping parts which are already understood
• Priming students thinking by asking questions that will be answered later
• Online discussion on the video content fuelled by participation grading

This tool supports the following formats: Vimeo, YouTube, MP4, MOV, WMV, AVI, FLV, MKV

A bit of background…

The Interactive Video tool is a result of a collaboration between partners from the Edtech Dotank, comprised of over 24 leading universities, such as MIT, TUDelft and HULT International Business School. All partners are united in their aim and dedication to accelerate the implementation of active, blended and online learning. The Dotank is facilitated by FeedbackFruits, as is the process of creating and distributing evidence-based learning activities and the digital means to support them.
